Less than 20 minutes away are:
Canterbury crammed with history and heritage, with great architecture and world famous buildings.  Vist the Cathedral, step back into the world of Chaucer or take a tour of the City on foot or by boat. 
Whitstable with it's traditional charms, strong arts culture and rich maritime history complementing its  modern appeal. Its main claim to fame is its oysters which are celebrated every July at the Oyster Festival.  
Herne Bay  A victorian seaside resort , with a (shortened ) pier and promenade gardens. Famous as having the first  feestanding purposebuilt clock tower in the world,  It is where Barnes Wallis Bouncing Bomb was tested and where Amy Johnson was lost at sea.
Nearby is Reculver Roman Fort and Wildwood Wildlife park with over 200 native animals set in 40 acres of beautiful ancient woodland.

Within about 30 minutes you can reach
Margate Ramsgate or Broadstairs  with a choice of sandy beaches and a Royal Marina  
Sandwich one of the oldest  Cinque Ports. isIt is one of the most historic towns in the country, with the street plan having changed little since the time of Doomsday in 1086.

Many  National Trust properties and English Heritage sites are within easy traveling distance of our home as is Chatham's Historic Dockyard, Leeds Castle  and much more
